Lansdale Assessing Sites for Future Skate Park

Councilwoman Mary Fuller dubbed 2013 "the year of the skate park." Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti discussed his research with Abington, Ambler and Quakertown skate parks — and how to get Hatfield Township on board with the borough's plan

2013 — The Year of the Skate Park Lansdale Parks and Recreation Chairwoman Mary Fuller has dubbed this year the year when Lansdale Borough brings a skate park to the community. The committee discussed its early progress on development of such a park Wednesday night. The borough is currently in the "learning mode" and "exploring mode" for the skate park. What was revealed at that meeting — Five potential sites for the park, with the jointly-owned Schweiker Park on the list. Lansdale Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti is meeting with the Hatfield Township Park Board on Monday to update them on the borough's plan. I couldn't agree more about allowing bikes at the park. Not only are we taxpayers who get hassled out of local spots, the bmx scene, in lansdale especially, is growing and expanding at a pretty rapid pace. Bikers need a safe place to ride without getting kicked out or fined. Along with the skaters, we can organize and help with the planning, labor, and general upkeep of the park. Skaters Wanted: Skate Park Development Begins

Lansdale Borough Parks and Recreation Committee wants to organize a panel of skateboarders, young and old, to be involved in the design and development of a skate park during 2013

Skaters — your time has come. Lansdale Borough Parks and Recreation Committee is officially in the infancy stages of bringing a skate park to Lansdale Borough. "We have an underserved population in our community: the skateboarders," Saldutti said. "To enhance what we do and provide for that group, we earmarked a skate park. We would like to move that forward." Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti said Wednesday night about $300,000 in seed money has been earmarked in the proposed 2013 budget for development of a skate park. "If you want to put in a concrete structure for a skate park, that was running somewhere around $32 a square foot. We were looking at a 10,000-square-foot facility — 100 by 100.
