North Penn Sets Forum on School Security

Superintendent Curt Dietrich will discuss security plans and protocols with residents on Jan. 7 at 6:45 p.m. at North Penn High School

In the wake of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut on Dec. 14, North Penn School District has begun scrutinizing its security and intruder drills at each school. According to Jennifer Lawson of The Reporter, North Penn will be boosting its security at school entrances. It is also planning on increasing the number of intruder drills from two per year. Superintendent Curt Dietrich will discuss security plans and protocols with parents and taxpayers at a community forum on Jan. 7 at 6:45 p.m. in North Penn High School’s auditorium. North Penn School Board Passes $207M Proposed Budget With 2.7% Tax Increase

The board will vote on the final budget June 21. If approved, it could mean $83 more for homeowners in yearly taxes

If approved June 21, a proposed $207.6 million North Penn School District budget that was preliminarily approved 5-2 Thursday will carry a 2.7 percent tax increase with it. According to an article in The Reporter, Robert Schoch, the director of business administration, said that increase means an additional $83 in yearly taxes for the Montgomery County homeowner. North Penn School Board members Joseph Sullivan and Frank O'Donnell voted against the preliminary budget. Two school board members were absent for the vote: Vice President Timothy Kerr and John Schilling. NP Board Looking at 2.9 Tax Increase, 41 Cuts

The school board is targeting to pass a $203.9 million budget for 2012-2013

You could pay 2.9 percent more in taxes next year. Your senior students could opt out of gym next year. North Penn School District could not provide money to the International Spring Festival next year. Foreign language could be nihil. Class sizes could increase. And class with less than 20 students could be gone, except in special education and gifted. That is what the North Penn School Board has on the table right now for the 2012-2013 budget. North Penn School District is looking to raise taxes 2.9 percent next year and cut 41 items from the budget in order to get to a $203.9 million price tag for 2012-2013.
