Founders Day Sponsors Rolling In for August Event

The Lansdale Lifetime Achievement Award nominations will also open to the public on Wednesday.

"A Town in Motion" is moving along gracefully. That is the theme for this year's Founders Day event in downtown Lansdale August 24 and sponsorships for the third annual event are coming in gradually. "We got our very first two sponsors with checks in (April 30)'s mail," Councilwoman Mary Fuller announced at this month's parks and recreation committee meeting in Lansdale. Fuller is also chairwoman of nonprofit Discover Lansdale, which organizes Founders Day. "We are off to a good start," she said. Olé!: Lansdale's Cinco de Mayo First Friday

Go Commando and El Mariachi Flores were the featured acts of the First Friday event in downtown Lansdale Friday night, presented by Discover Lansdale and Margaritas in Towamencin.

Downtown Lansdale was muy caliente Friday night. Discover Lansdale presented a Cinco de Mayo Celebration for its First Friday event, that ran from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., sponsored by Margaritas Mexican Restaurant. Margaritas is nearing the end of its five-day "Bash for the Stache" event. Naturally, it was fake mustaches galore on pedestrians and attendees of the First Friday. Lansdale Music Factory was abuzz with music acts and discounted vinyl, thanks to owners Dean and Cathy Griffo. Wood Street was packed for the multi-decade cover song spectacle from Go Commando. Ernesto Flores, of Douglassville, and his four brothers made up  El Mariachi Flore at Railroad Plaza. Meanwhile, it was all purple balloons, courtesy of Milestones in Music, and …

Consultant: Discover Lansdale Should Be Fundraising Arm for 311 W. Main

Laura Burnham, the contracted consultant for the development of 311 W. Main St., updated the Economic Development Committee and Communication Commission Monday night on her roles and goals for the future arts center in Lansdale.

Laura Burnham, the new consultant for 311 W. Main St., is ready to tackle many roles toward one main goal: make the historic Masonic Temple property a cultural destination for the Lansdale community and beyond. Burnham also has another goal on her checklist: make nonprofit Discover Lansdale both the fundraising arm for and managing head of 311 W. Main St. "My role, in particular, with Lansdale, is to facilitate the desire that you all have made a commitment to: to have a viable and vibrant arts center in the center of town, and a place that can also drive economic development and enliven the downtown," Burnham told members of the joint session of the Economic Development Committee and Communication Commission Monday night. "That's one of …

Lansdale Founders Day Plans 'In Motion'

This year's theme for the third Founders Day event is 'A Town in Motion.' The excursion train will return this year.

Trains will return to Lansdale August 24 for the third annual Founders Day event. The theme for 2013 fits in nicely with the borough's new branding initiative: A Town in Motion. "We went from 'A Town on Track' to 'A Town in Motion'," said Councilwoman Mary Fuller during this week's parks and recreation committee session. Fuller chairs the parks committee in Lansdale, and chairs the nonprofit Discover Lansdale. Fuller said the most popular attraction last year—the SEPTA New Hope & Ivyland Excursion Train—will be back, with a possible extension to the leg of the trip. The round-trip train from Lansdale to Souderton is also on the schedule. Fuller said that train ride may have a change to it. "If it does go to Souderton, a program to enhance …

First Friday Returns in April 2013

Lansdale Councilwoman and Discover Lansdale Chairwoman Mary Fuller reviewed the success of December's First Friday at a recent committee meeting

Santa Claus came to town on November 30, and that meant letters. Tabora Farms donated the Letters to Santa Writing Station at Discover Lansdale's First Friday that night, and what resulted was a big sack of wish lists. "The Discover Lansdale elves want to tell everyone they will, in fact, get what they put on their list," said Fuller. Fuller reviewed what is considered a successful First Friday to wrap 2012 at the parks and recreation committee meeting last week. First Friday will return in April 2013. Discover Lansdale already has some musical acts booked, including Beatles tribute band Almost Fab and Philly Funk Authority. Discover Lansdale has been in contact with the bands Where's Pete?, Slimfit, The Mighty Manatees and singer-…
