West Ward residents, led by Ray Liberto, organized a candlelight vigil for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary in Railroad Plaza in Lansdale Sunday night, where each victim's name was read and a balloon released in their honor
It was the definition of "community." Organized by the west ward neighborhood in Lansdale, more than 100 citizens came together at Railroad Plaza in the borough Sunday night — candles aflame — for a vigil for the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, CT. Led by resident Ray Liberto, the vigil lasted about a half hour. Trinity Lutheran Church Rev. Paul Lutz opened the night with a benediction. The most touching part of the evening was the release of green and white balloons upon the reading of each victim's name by resident Drew Stockmal. Resident Lisa Patrick assisted with the balloons. "It was powerful, emotional night," said Liberto. "I thought, with the Facebook response, we would see 500, but think it was 400. We had 300 …

Tom Meyer, director of Lansdale Library, accepted the check from Beer Fest organizer Drew Stockmal Friday afternoon
The Lansdale Public Library just added $13,000 to its coffers thanks to the proceeds raised from ticket sales from Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival in June. Festival co-organizer Drew Stockmal presented Lansdale Library Director Tom Meyer with the check Friday afternoon. Meyer said the money will go into the library's general operating fund. "We could paint the signs," he joked, following the presentation in front of the library's sign at Susquehanna Avenue and Vine Street. He said the library received about $5,500 last year from festival ticket sales. "It's great. This is twice as much as last year," he said. Festival organizers met their fundraising goal. "We raised a little north of $20,000 this year," said Stockmal. About $4,000 was …

On Saturday afternoon, the corner lot of Third & Richardson street in Lansdale was turned into a beer lover's paradise, as The Lansdale Craft Beer Tasting Festival held their second annual event. The parking lot was buzzing with excitement at noon when the VIP ticket holders were allowed into the event for a “Sneak Peak” and virtually no line access to the many wonderful brewers who attended the event. The festival featured 70 brewers lined up under two huge tents. Both tents featured the big names in brewing, but half of one tent was devoted to some fantastic homebrews for the Keystone Homebrew Home Brew Contest. Inside the tents, the big brewers proudly displayed their wares in draft taps attached to coolers to make sure the beer was …

Everything's on tap for the second annual Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival Saturday
Three days to go, and everything’s on tap for a successful second Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival. Drive around the bend of Richardson Avenue near Madison Parking Lot and you can’t miss the large white tents erected in the open field in preparation for Saturday. “We’re getting going. It’s coming together,” said organizer Drew Stockmal. “All the tents are up and the tables and chairs will be ready by Saturday. It’s a nicer setting than last year – just in terms of where we have it this year – grass instead of pavement. We’re very excited about it.” The event last year was held in the Madison Parking Lot. On Saturday, it’s moved to an adjacent fenced-in area bordered by Richardson Avenue, Second Street and the R5 tracks. “The location is …
