A "winter update" will address additional stresses young children are facing in the wake of recent violent school attacks.
With the violence of Sandy Hook Elementary School still fresh in the minds of parents and educators, the need to talk to young children about violence is evergrowing. Bucks and Montgomery county educators will soon have a chance to learn how to best handle what can be a very difficult discussion to have. The Montgomery County Cooperative Extension of Penn State will host a 2013 Winter Update for Early Education professionals. The six-hour conference will be held at the Franconia Heritage Restaurant, Banquet and Conference Center, 508 Harleysville Pike, Telford. Students told faculty they had seen an armed man in a ski mask.
A man who was out jogging is believed to have been the cause of a lockdown at West Broad Street Elementary School in Franconia on Thursday afternoon, police said. The school was placed on lockdown at about 1:40 p.m. after three fourth-grade students on the school's playground reported seeing a man in a black sweater and black-hooded mask with a gun along a nearby tree line. Franconia Township Police Chief Joseph Kozeniewski said authorities were "confident" that the children had mistaken the unidentified jogger for the armed person. "We are not sure where [the children] came up with the idea of a man carrying a gun," Kozeniewski said. At least one person was flown by MidAtlantic MedEvac after suffering injuries in a reported hit-and-run accident at Harleysville Pike/Route 113 and Allentown Road in Franconia Township Sunday afternoon, according to Breaking News Network reports. MidAtlantic is a joint air medical transport program operated by Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Active Incident report, a report was received at 3:39 p.m. by 9-1-1 of a Ford Ranger sitting in the intersection of Allentown Road and Harleysville Pike. Ryan Weeks, 31, faces 44 charges in his alleged connection to numerous daytime burglaries in numerous towns
A Franconia Township man has been arrested by Hatfield Township Police as the alleged culprit in numerous daytime burglaries in Hatfield Township, Franconia Township and Horsham Township. Ryan Weeks, 31, of the 100 block of Forrest Road, Franconia, has been charged by police with 44 charges related to burglaries in our area. Weeks faces eight felony counts of burglary, eight felony counts of criminal trespassing, eight counts of felony theft by unlawful taking, eight counts of felony receiving stolen property, 10 counts of use or possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of criminal attempted burglary. A preliminary hearing is set for April 12 at 2:30 p.m. before District Judge Ken Deatelhauser. Bail has been set at $100,000 …

Allegedly forced victim into car at gunpoint
A man who allegedly forced his ex-girlfriend into his car at gunpoint outside a Lansdale bar has been charged with her kidnapping and numerous other offenses, Lansdale Police said today. Joshua Ellis, 28, allegedly forced the victim, an Upper Gwynedd woman, into his car in a parking lot near the Third & Walnut Bar in Lansdale shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night. The 21-year-old woman had been celebrating her birthday with friends inside the bar when Ellis allegedly arrived and became involved in an argument with her. Police said Ellis was under a Protection from Abuse Order filed by the victim. Police said the victim attempted to "calm down" Ellis by going outside the bar to speak with him. Franconia Township Police have informed area residents and the neighboring communities of Lower Salford Township and Telford Borough of a luring incident Tuesday afternoon. A 12-year-old girl was followed by a vehicle when she got off her school bus, and the driver pulled up next to her and asked her to pose for a picture. Two paramedics and two EMTs were promoted to handle an increase in emergency calls over the past couple years
Harleysville Area Emergency Medical Services career line officer and paramedic Lt. Tim McAteer spends more than 48 hours every single week responding to emergencies in Lower Salford Township and parts of Franconia Township. On top of that, he spends at least 24 hours a month volunteering with the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale. If there’s a S.W.A.T. event, tack on an additional 12 hours for his role as medic team for the North Penn Tactical Response Team. With HAEMS, McAteer’s role just became more responsible, as he and three of his peers were promoted Wednesday night.
