Butcher-Knife-Wielding 'Grinch' Gets 23 Months

Karen Pilat, 51, of Hatfield, got a maximum 23 months in county jail on a simple assault misdemeanor for menacing her husband with a butcher knife on Christmas because she didn't like her gifts.

Being a butcher-knife-wielding “Grinch” on Christmas has sent one Hatfield woman to jail. Karen Pilat, 51, got a maximum 23-month sentence for conviction on a misdemeanor simple assault for a Christmas 2011 attack on her husband, according to Mainline Media. Pilat menaced her husband with a butcher knife inside their 2400 block of Merel Drive home Christmas morning. Why? Because she didn’t like her gifts. She wanted jewels and a card. She got an artsy tile and a Bonsai. Assistant District Attorney Cara McMenamin said in the article that Pilat's anger at the wrong gifts "... turned her into essentially the ‘Grinch’ on steroids. Reptile Show Slithers into Hatfield

The Eastern Herpetological Expo, sponsored by Reptile Kingdom, brought out reptiles of all shapes, sizes and colors to the BucksMont Indoor Sports Center Saturday.

Snakes, lizards, monitor lizards, snapping turtles, chameleons and more were the awe of young and old alike at the Eastern Herpetological Expo—or Reptilrama—at the BucksMont Indoor Sports Center on North Penn Road in Hatfield Township Saturday. The expo has its roots in the Sellersville and Perkasie area, and was well known for years in the Pottstown area until 2005, according to its website.  Now, it slithered its way back into the area this past weekend. The event featured many reptiles for sale, but others were merely for display. One fascinating reptile at the show was an Alligator snapping turtle. Five Things to Know: Laser Light Shows, Reptile Expo and More

Boy Scout Troop 62, based out of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lansdale, holds a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the church, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $10.

At 1 p.m., it’s “Legends of the Night Sky.” See pop music brought to life through an animated tale of constellations in the night sky. Hatfield Teen Charged With Alleged Heroin Sales

Harley Duval, 19, of the 1300 block of Needham Circle, allegedly sold nine bags of heroin to an undercover Lansdale Borough drug task force officer. He is charged with five felonies and nine misdemeanors.

A Hatfield teenager who allegedly sold nine bags of heroin to an undercover Lansdale Borough drug task force officer has been arrested and charged with heroin sales in the borough. Harley Duval, 19, of the 1300 block of Needham Circle, has been charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver heroin, two felony counts of criminal use of a phone, three misdemeanor counts of possession of heroin, three misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and three misdemeanor counts of receipt in commerce, according to court records. Accused Hatfield Auto Theft, Tasing Trio Head to Court

Sarah Nodecker, of Montgomery Township; Jeremiah White, of Pottstown; and Richard Stroud, of Hatfield, had all charges against them held at a preliminary hearing March 15 in Montgomeryville court.

The two men and teenage girl involved in the alleged tasing, robbery and theft of a man on Trewigtown Road in Hatfield Township in February had all charges against them held for Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas arraignment in April at a March 15 preliminary hearing in Montgomeryville. Richard Stroud, 20, of Hatfield; Jeremiah White, 20, of Pottstown; and Sarah Nodecker, 19, of Montgomery Township, allegedly tased, robbed and stole the vehicle of a man who met them near Bethlehem Pike and Trewigtown Road on Feb. 24 to give them a test drive of a car he was selling, police said. Remembering North Penn's Five Casualties of the Iraq War

This week marks 10 years since the start of the Iraq war. Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch recognizes fallen soldiers from our surrounding communities.

This week marks 10 years since the start of the Iraq war. Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch here recognizes the fallen heroes from the surrounding North Penn community. By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting. CNN has a stunning map of all casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars here. In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 197 Pennsylvanians. Hatfield Man Wanted for Attempted Murder Throat Slashing Turns Himself In

Thomas Troy Young, 49, of Wheatfield Circle, allegedly slashed the throat of his wife in their home on March 10 and fled the scene. Bail was set at $1 million. He is charged with attempted murder.

HATFIELD, PA — The Hatfield man wanted on attempted murder charges in the throat slashing of his wife has turned himself has turned himself in to police—and remains incarcerated at Montgomery County prison on $1 million bail. Thomas Troy Young, 49, of the 300 block of Wheatfield Circle, contacted and turned himself in to Hatfield Township Police on March 15, police said. Young was arraigned before District Judge Harry Nesbitt and bail was set at $1 million cash, police said. A preliminary hearing is set for March 25 at 10:30 a.m. before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser in Souderton. Five-School Hockey Information Session This Weekend

North Penn, Central Bucks West, Souderton, Lansdale Catholic and Pennridge hockey team representatives will be on hand to provide information on respective school programs at Hatfield Ice on Saturday.

Here's something cool going on on Saturday for hockey fans. Hockey team representatives from Lansdale Catholic, North Penn, Pennridge, Souderton and Central Bucks West will be at Hatfield Ice at 350 County Line Road in Colmar on Saturday and Sunday with details on their respective programs for students in grades four to 11. If you are in school and want to play hockey for your school, come out to the event each day between 2:40 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. If you desire to play on a club this spring or fall, come out this weekend and get some more details. Man Sought in Throat Slashing Attempted Murder

Hatfield Township Police Department has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Thomas Troy Young, who is wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a 33-year-old woman in Hatfield early Sunday morning. As Patch previously reported, the woman was flown from the 300 block of Wheatfield Circle when police found her at 12:38 a.m. on Sunday morning with her throat slashed. According to a release from Hatfield Police, the woman, whose name has not been released, is "a family member" of Young. Young is wanted for criminal attempt murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assualt, harassment and possessing instruments of a crime, according to the release.  The victim was transported to the Hospital of the …

Third Man Wanted in Hatfield Tasing, Robbery Turns Himself In

Richard Lee Stroud, 20, of Philadelphia, allegedly conspired with Jeremiah White of Pottstown and Sarah Nodecker of Montgomery Township to rob a man who met the trio for a test drive of a car Feb. 24.

The Philadelphia man wanted by Hatfield Township Police for his alleged involvement in the Tasering and robbery of a man inside a vehicle on Feb. 24 turned himself into police Wednesday. Richard Lee Stroud, 20, of a third floor apartment on the 600 block of North 43rd Street, faces charges of  felony robbery with immediate serious bodily injury, felony robbery with taking property by force, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, felony theft, felony receiving stolen property, felony criminal use of a cell phone, possessing an instrument of crime, and felony use or possession of an electric or electronic incapacitation device, police said.
