Van Dame Appointed to Lansdale Council, Will Serve Out Veep's Term

When Paul Clemente resigned from his role in December, council requested submissions of interest to fill the Ward One vacancy and serve out the remainder of Clemente's term. Jason Van Dame was chosen over Jeff Howard in a unanimous vote

With what councilmembers called "two great candidates" before them and with a decision that was "like splitting hairs," Jason Van Dame, a fourth-generation Lansdalian, was appointed unanimously to fill the vacated Ward One seat on borough council Wednesday night. Van Dame and resident Jeff Howard were the only two Ward One residents who submitted letters of interest in December to fill the vacancy left by a resigning Paul Clemente. Van Dame, a registered Independent, will serve out Clemente's remaining term, ending Dec. 31, 2013. He would then need to run in the election for a chance to keep his seat. "Yes, at this point, I do plan to run in the fall," he said. Van Dame doesn't have an agenda. "I want to ensure that the borough continues …

Additional sanitary and storm sewer work is proposed for the project. The Lansdale Public Works Committee is expected to make a recommendation soon on proceeding with engineering work on the project

A preliminary proposal from borough engineer Remington, Vernick and Beach estimates a price tag of more than $1 million to repair sanitary and storm sewers along Jenkins Avenue, between Chestnut and Line streets. "We asked (borough engineer) Remington, Vernick and Beach to go back and look at a broader proposal for a number of items we felt important to work on, specifically some additional sanitary and storm sewer work in there," said Public Works Committee Chairman Denton Burnell at council's Wednesday work session. "It does come with a very hefty price tag." The Jenkins Avenue issue became a stinky one for one resident at Jenkins Avenue and Chestnut Street last year. He came to the public works committee to notify the borough that he …

Camera, No Trespassing Signs Coming to Lansdale Historical Society

Chief Robert McDyre told the public safety committee that measures need to be taken to protect the 'valuable' assets at the Jenkins Homestead on Jenkins Avenue

After dealing with recent instances of vandalism at the Jenkins Homestead, the Lansdale Historical Society is getting some help from Lansdale Police and the borough public safety committee. Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre told the committee last week that no trespassing signs and surveillance cameras will soon be installed at the homestead. "I think the items are too valuable to suffer loss any further," McDyre said. Lansdale Historical Society President Dick Shearer said he has been very appreciative of the increased surveillance that the borough has provided ever since the increase in vandalism, which has ranged from graffiti on a historic home to damaged shakes on the roof of an 18th-century spring house. "I am very concerned about …

Sewer Line Replacement Coming for Jenkins Ave.

A pipe between Broad and Chestnut streets on Jenkins Avenue is too small to handle sanitary sewage flow. Lansdale Public Works has to determine when replacement work can start on the pipe

A sanitary sewer pipe on Jenkins Avenue, between Chestnut and Line streets, is too small and the cause of sewage backups and has to go. Last year, a resident at the corner of Jenkins Avenue and Chestnut Street came to the public works committee to notify the borough that he was getting sewage pushed back up into his yard because of infiltration and high flow, according to public works committee chair Denton Burnell. "There was so much water traveling through that area," Burnell said. The borough commissioned borough engineer Remington, Vernick and Beach to do a flow study in the area. "The long and short of it is, it looks like the line into Jenkins Avenue from Chestnut Street to Broad Street is, based on their calculations, undersized and…
