PennDOT recently reduced the speed limit on the two curves on Knapp Road, which divides Lansdale Borough and Montgomery Township
Knapp Road should now be a bit safer around those infamous two curves. Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre informed the public safety committee last week that PennDOT lowered the speed limit to 10 mph on the curves. "They placed all new signs with extended chevrons and new high retroreflectivity standards," McDyre said. "Everything's up on both sides." According to the Federal Highway Administration, retroreflective signs are signs where light from vehicle headlights is bounced back toward the vehicle and the driver's eyes. As a result, the signs appear brighter and easier to see and read. The FHWA believes these signs will improve highway safety and prevent crashes. Knapp Road is the dividing line between Lansdale Borough and Montgomery …

Councilman Rich DiGregorio is adamant about getting a flashing school signal for Knapp Road, but without Montgomery Township on board, it's a dead issue
The third time isn't a charm for Lansdale Councilman Rich DiGregorio. DiGregorio's request for the public safety committee to look at a flashing school crossing on Knapp Road has been denied for a third time in four years in a 3-0 vote. The issue: Montgomery Township and North Penn School District need to be part of an interagency agreement to install the lights. Knapp Road is the dividing line in that part of town between Lansdale Borough and Montgomery Township. At the public safety committee meeting this month, Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre estimated the cost of install at $60,000 split three ways. Public Safety Committee member and council Vice President Paul Clemente voted to deny the request for a third time. "This has been …

Lansdale Borough has learned to be proactive versus reactive when it comes to notifying residents of road projects. An April 30 meeting with residents affected by a Fourth Street road project has been set
Lansdale Borough admits its faults – and is now learning from its mistakes. Borough Manager Timi Kirchner admitted at the April 18 council meeting that the borough didn’t preempt residents affected by the Seventh Street infrastructure project, the York Avenue street repairs and the Edgemont Avenue repairs. The borough didn’t do what it did with business owners before the streetscape project – sit stakeholders down, explain what was going on before it happened and what they should anticipate, and introduce them to the manpower behind the project. Now, the borough is being proactive instead of reactive with four upcoming infrastructure projects. “With Edgemont, with York and with Seventh Street, we didn’t do that; we weren’t preemptive,” …

Councilman Rich DiGregorio said Montgomery Township, North Penn School District are now on board to fund installation of safety devices on Knapp Road
Lansdale Councilman Rich DiGregorio is determined to get a flashing school zone on Knapp Road next to Knapp Elementary. The problem: Knapp Road is the dividing line for Lansdale Borough and Montgomery Township. Lansdale cannot install a flashing school zone area and police the area without agreement from Montgomery Township. “We have a school zone. We have support from Montgomery Township, I was told from the chief of police. For the next year, I would like to propose to see if we can put these lights up at the school,” said DiGregorio at last week’s council meeting during the budget presentation. “It’s a safety situation,” he said. “The district and principal would like to have the lights up.” DiGregorio said he would like the borough to …
