Lansdale Business Association is in the embryonic stages of pushing for mural beautifications in downtown Lansdale Borough. It needs the support of, ideas from and decisions by the community
Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine driving down East and West Main Street and passing sides of well-known buildings on the strip, beautified by artistic murals. There's one mural on the side of Centennial Blueprint at Main and Ridge. Stop at Broad and Main and peer at the mural on the side facade of McQuillin Studio. There are another two on the massive span of the North Penn Boys' and Girls' Club wall and the side of Hen's Coins and Collectables at Main and Susquehanna. Across the street, adjacent to Railroad Plaza, there is a fourth mural along the side of Tabora Farms. Judith Boyles has begun to capture moments from Lansdale's heyday. Giclee prints of two oil masterpieces are available for purchase to benefit Lansdale Historical Society
You could call Judy Boyles a memory preservationist. She has a knack for capturing majestic moments in nature via camera and recreating them on canvas, moments beautifully embedded in your mind or abstractly described as words in some memoir. Her latest oils are neither flora nor fauna, but this: nostalgia. Stand at West Main Street and N. Towamencin Avenue and look in the direction of the water tower; you see a parking lot for a Univest Insurance building that spans the entire block. In the 1920s, it looked much different. In fact, it was the crown jewel of town, frequented daily. On March 5, 1928, Lansdale Theater opened and remained on that site until its demolition in 1979. Lansdale Fun-A-Day will showcase local artists and their masterpieces at a free show Friday night
For all 31 days in January, artists in Lansdale, the Philadelphia region, the Indian Valley and the Lehigh Valley, have been creating and tinkering with their masterpieces in preparation for an inaugural event this Friday in Lansdale. The Lansdale Fun-A-Day Show comes to Third and Walnut Bar’s upstairs ballroom Friday night at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Since Wednesday night, organizer Amy Rims, who also sits on Lansdale’s 311 W. Main Street Task Force, has been setting up for the show and welcoming artists who are taking part in the event. “I can’t even give an answer as to how many are coming,” she said. “I networked this show through a bunch of local artists, and they spread the word to another artist and so on.” Rims was still setting …

However, the LBA doesn't want to commit to something that reflects what a business does or a mural showing something related to a business, as there's a chance that business could close - and now Lansdale has, for example, a mural of candy with no sweet shop.
