Tickets are now available for the Mural Arts Program June 8, which looks to raise funds for the Lansdale mural beautification project. Lansdale Business Association has closed entries and is now reviewing artist submissions for the murals.
Grab a mask, take a chance at the Monte Carlo Murals Masquerade June 8. The Lansdale Mural Arts Program—under leadership of the Lansdale Business Association, an entity not affiliated with Lansdale Borough—will show off the beauty of the North Penn community at the fundraiser, which looks to put Lansdale on the "MAP," according to an invitation. There is a three-hour open bar, which includes beer, wine and soda. Liquor awaits you at the cash bar. The event runs 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are available now at $50 per person. The Lansdale Business Association is now accepting sketches and concepts for two murals to be painted in downtown Lansdale as part of the Lansdale Mural Arts Program.
Local artists: Your idea for a mural to beautify Lansdale could grace one of two building facades in the downtown by the end of summer. Lansdale Business Association is now accepting sketches, photographs and other concepts for the Lansdale Mural Arts Program. The deadline for submissions is April 24. Applicants can submit sketches, photos or other completed works for consideration for a mural. No experience required and no practice in place that would keep artists' work from being viewed or prioritized. Each artist can submit five pieces of work for each building, or 10 pieces per artist. The facades of McQuillin Studio at Main and Broad streets and Tabora Farms next to Railroad Plaza will be the first locations for future murals in Lansdale. The mural arts program was the talk of Lansdale's town hall session Tuesday.
Artists will soon paint the town red. And blue. And yellow. And possibly any other color under the sun. The owners of two buildings on West Main Street in Lansdale—Joe and Patricia McQuillin, owners of 1 W. Main St., and William and Dorothy Ross, owners of 209 W. Main St.—have signed on to work in conjunction with the Lansdale Mural Arts Program to host the first two murals in town. The murals are proposed to be painted on the side of McQuillin Studios at Main and Broad streets, and on the side of Tabora Cafe, next to Railroad Plaza. Green Street Luxuries in Lansdale hosted a business mixer last Wednesday, featuring members of Lansdale Business Association. The Lansdale Mural Arts Program Committee members were on hand to answer questions about the project and gather input and feedback from guests. There were also informational brochures to let guests know how to make contributions. The night also meant the first fundraising opportunity for the program, raising $50. Getting Lansdale businesses on board to help promote the new brand initiative will be challenging, said Lansdale Business Association President Doug DiPasquale during last week's joint Economic Development Committee and Communication Commission meeting. The main challenge: Having business owners understand the use of the brand is not a borough-sanctioned thing. DiPasquale, who sits on the Economic Development Committee as liaison to the LBA, said the issue came up during a recent discussion of its murals project. Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine driving down East and West Main Street and passing sides of well-known buildings on the strip, beautified by artistic murals. There's one mural on the side of Centennial Blueprint at Main and Ridge. Stop at Broad and Main and peer at the mural on the side facade of McQuillin Studio. There are another two on the massive span of the North Penn Boys' and Girls' Club wall and the side of Hen's Coins and Collectables at Main and Susquehanna. One local family is getting some TLC from the LBA during the holidays, thanks to CHS. The Lansdale Business Association is at present collecting new, unwrapped gifts for two children of a local family that needs assistance for Christmas. The family and their information is provided by Community Housing Services in Lansdale. Donations can be dropped off at the LBA's annual holiday party from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 311 W. More than 350 tasters voted for their favorite chili during the Lansdale Business Association's third-annual Chili Cookoff
Not Just Sandwiches' best chili streak has been broken. Smoke Rack Barbecue took first prize in the third annual Lansdale Business Association Chili Cookoff at the Lansdale October First Friday. Coming in second and third were 63 Bistro and Lansdale Tavern, respectively. West Main Diner and Marjeane Caterers tied for fourth place.
