Lansdale Borough Council recognizes bimonthly the employees of Lansdale and their tenures in the borough.
It was that time again at Lansdale Borough Council Wednesday—A bit of recognition for longtime borough employees. Council President Matt West and borough Manager Timi Kirchner congratulated and applauded each employee as he or she was recognized for their anniversaries. Each name and time of service was usually met with awe from the public. The employee recognized for the longest tenure in Lansdale was electric department employee John Hawley at 45 years with the borough. Close behind, at 35 years, was wastewater treatment plant director Dan Shinskie. Ed Lindinger, of the electric department, celebrated 25 years of service with Lansdale. Joining him at the 25-year mark was public works employee Ed Goetz. Denise Brackin has spent a decade …

The primary election is upon us, and with it, a couple of choices exist for the residents of Lansdale. My name is Jason Van Dame, and I currently sit on Borough Council. I was appointed to fill a term that ends this year. My name will be on the ballot this November as a candidate for this seat, but, as a registered independent voter, I am not required to participate in the primary. But I would like to offer some thoughts and observations for those that are not yet decided on how to vote in this primary. When I first heard about the open seat and request for applications to fill the council position, I was immediately interested. It was shortly after the 2012 elections, and all the political propaganda that goes along with that process. …

To my Friends and Neighbors of Ward 3: My name is Daniel P. Dunigan, and I am the only experienced Republican candidate running for Council in Ward 3. I am proud to have been elected in 2009 by the residents of Lansdale, who valued my extensive professional experience in finance. That experience led to me being appointed to Chairman of the Borough’s Administration & Finance committee, a position I have held since being sworn-in in January 2010. As Chairman of the Administration & Finance committee, I led the current administration’s effort to restore the Borough’s fiscal health. In the decade preceding my term, the Borough was headed for bankruptcy as a result of continued deficit spending. Since my time as Chair, the Borough has been …

Hello, My name is Sara McConnell. I am currently in a mentorship with Councilwoman Mary Fuller. I am writing this so that everyone knows how great a person she is. She is so dedicated to making Lansdale a better place that she puts in hours and hours of her spare time into coming up with new ways to make the borough better. I contacted Mrs. Fuller last spring about possibly becoming my mentor. I explained that the mentorship would be a part of the Gifted Mentorship program of North Penn High School. I told her that I realized that she is a very busy woman, as I could see from her list of duties on the borough website. However, that is exactly why I wanted her to be my mentor. The fact that she is a mom, has a job, and can still find the …
Lansdale Borough, in its continuing effort to improve customer service and its brand, will hold two meetings next week for the interested public on the upcoming Wood-Vine Connector Project.
If you want to know what is going on with the upcoming Wood-Vine Connector Project in Lansdale, especially how it will affect you as a business owner, resident or commuter, then set aside some time next week to attend two scheduled community meetings on the project. The Wood-Vine Connector is Lansdale's PCTI streetscape project that looks to take drivers around Broad and Main—and the SEPTA tracks—via a non-stop thoroughfare from Vine and Broad streets to Wood and Main streets. At Wood and Main, drivers would encounter a four-way traffic light—this light will be the one relocated from Susquehanna Avenue and Main Street. Susquehanna would then become right-turn only. The project will reconfigure the look and layout of Lansdale Public Library…

I love Lansdale. It's that simple. I have devoted much of my time and effort over the last two decades, and especially the last four years, working to improve the community in which I live. It's what I do. It's who I am. Those of you who remember me from my Knapp Elementary School days know that; those of you who have gotten to know me during my first term on council have learned that. For the last four years, I have proudly served as your elected councilwoman and most recently as your council vice president. I enjoy chairing the Parks and Recreation, Library, and Economic Development committees as well as serving on the Public Safety and Appointments committees. The work I do with these committees allows me to be in constant touch with …

If you live in Lansdale Borough, I want to be your councilwoman … now more than ever. My desire to be part of positive change on Lansdale Borough Council was initially inspired by a less-than-pleasant tone that sometimes prevailed during council meetings, which I noticed when I began attending regularly in late 2011. I detected animosity toward particular residents who spoke at the podium and, in some cases, blatant disrespect toward fellow council members. This needs to stop. Such an environment has not provided the best backdrop for cooperation aimed at accomplishing some large goals, like taking a serious look at business improvement districts or moving forward with a definitive plan for 311 West Main Street. Now, after knocking on …

Lansdale Borough Council held a special meeting last week to submit a $500,000 matching grant application to the Department of Community and Economic Development for improvements to 311 W. Main St.
Grant submitted, fingers crossed. At a special meeting last Wednesday at Lansdale Borough Hall, council announced the filing of a matching grant application for $500,000 under the Keystone Communities Program by the Department of Community and Economic Development. The application procedures required the borough hold a special meeting to seek comment from the public and council in support of the grant application. All attendees to the meeting had to be documented as well, per requirements. A similar process was done April 10 for the same grant program through the Lansdale Parking Authority for improvements to Madison Parking Lot. "The grant application is being prepared by Spiezle Architects to seek $500,000 for public infrastructure …

Lansdale Borough Councilman Jack Hansen said he, his family and friends 'have become very upset' with Strahm's constant attacks.
It is that time of the year again! Political season is upon us and some people will say anything to get your attention. As anyone who knows me knows, I am a Democrat, and I support Democrats for election. I have done this all of my life, and will probably continue to support Democrats for the rest of my life. I have been an active Democrat in Lansdale for 28 years. I was a committee person for 21 years. I attended almost every committee meeting, and volunteered for voter registration, fundraising, lit drops, envelope stuffing, and any other duties expected of a committee person. I would knock on doors for our candidates, and invite new people in my neighborhood to join the party. I have a plaque hanging on the wall in my office. It is the…

Hey Bob -- way to comment on the merits of Jason's article. The guy is a true Independent, isn't even endorsed by anyone, has never been in politics before this, and has strong arguments to be made based on actually being on Council for a little while. Imagine that -- an impartial view! But hey -- let's ignore all that.   more ›
