Kulpsville Welcome Sign in the Works

Towamencin Township supervisors discussed installing a welcome sign near the Lansdale Interchange of the Northeast Extension at an October meeting

There are talks of installing a welcome sign in Towamencin near the Lansdale Interchange, according to reports. Bradley Schlegel of The Reporter wrote that the idea was discussed by supervisors at an Oct. 10 meeting. A design has not begun, and everything is in the planning stages, according to the article. Discussions come at a time when a 6-mile expansion of the Northeast Extension between Mid-County and Berks Road wraps up in 2014, according to the article. Then, work repeats for two more years, from Berks Road to Lansdale Interchange, in mid-2014. Read more at The Reporter Online. What do you think of a welcome sign in Kulpsville? Let us know in the comments!

According to The Reporter, a letter confirming the amended sign was written by Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission COO Craig Shuey. "I think that's a great compromise," said Lansdale Borough Councilman Jack Hansen, who initially prompted the borough to oppose the renaming of the interchange. "Lansdale is a destination, it's on a turnaround. Kulpsville and Harleysville are two great areas. I think as long as Lansdale is still on there, it will work out just fine." Hansen said he hoped Towamencin Supervisors Chairman Dan Littley felt the same. It was Littley and his Towamencin peers who …

I am happy to see that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has agreed to include Kulpsville on the sign for the Lansdale exit. Residents of Towamencin are footing part of the bill to upgrade the area around the interchange, and residents and businesses from all over the area, including Lansdale, will benefit from it. Many thanks to the PTC and the Towamencin Board of Supervisors.   more ›

Northeast Extension Widening Final Plans Shown at Open House

Residents, commuters see details of six-lane widening, including noise wall locations and new EZ-Pass ramps at Lansdale Interchange

Residents living along the corridor of the $150 million total reconstruction and six-lane widening of five miles of the Northeast Extension from Lansdale to Berks Road – and even commuters that travel said corridor – got a final understanding of the design plans at the last open house at Towamencin Fire Co. Tuesday night before Spring 2014 groundbreaking. What you have now between Lansdale and Berks Road are two lanes northbound and southbound at 12 feet wide each, with a two-foot median/barrier and 10-foot shoulders. When all’s said and done at Thanksgiving 2016, this section of the turnpike will be transformed into three 12-foot lanes in both directions, plus 12-foot shoulders and a 26-foot median – two 12-foot shoulders and a two-foot …
