A visual look at citizens celebrating an annual tradition that ushers the holiday season in the borough

You can't beat candy and Santa. You also can't beat community, as thousands packed West Main Street from Mitchell to Memorial Park Saturday for the 62nd Mardi Gras Parade in Lansdale. There were oohs, there were ahs, there was Santa Claus. This year, his elves were Towamencin volunteer firefighters, and his sleigh, Engine 76-4. He was paraded through town by the likes of North Penn Marching Band, Souderton's Big Red Band, Fairmount Fire Co., Hilltown Fire Co., Lansdale Cannoneers, North Penn YMCA (and Adventure Guides), 4-H Clubs, Mater Dei Catholic School, Knights 4 Life, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, cops, clowns and — literally — cheerleaders. Today is the Lansdale Business Association Pre-Parade Pancake Pandemonium Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Manna on Main Street. Five bucks at the door gets you in

1. Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade begins at 1 p.m. on Lansdale’s Main Street, from Mitchell Avenue to Line Street. 2. Today is the Lansdale Business Association Pre-Parade Pancake Pandemonium Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Manna on Main Street. Five bucks at the door gets you in, with proceeds benefitting The Peak Center in Lansdale. Meal is pancakes, sausage, fruit and juice. Fruit donated by Edible Arrangements and juice and milk donated by Lehigh Valley Dairy. 3. The 61st-annual parade had its memorable flash and flair

Main Street in Lansdale's downtown business district was the site Saturday afternoon of one of the most beloved events in town. Returning for a 61st year, the Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade kicked off at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Avenue and Main Street, featuring the equipment of local emergency responders, businesses, floats from service organizations, performances from local middle school bands and the award-winning Marching Knights, and plenty of familiar faces from the neighborhood. This year's theme was "Holiday Sing-A-Long." Residents and out-of-towners lined the sidewalks of Main Street in their typical bundled-up glory as they feasted their eyes on the people and vehicles parading down the street.
