Residents and borough officials discussed the ongoing trash hauler survey last week, and how it may affect residents in the long run. "It's sort of like a monopoly," said resident Rose Chapman
There was a lot of trash talk at the informal Lansdale Town Hall session last week. The borough is in the midst of wrapping up single trash hauler surveys from its residents. The surveys will be used to determine whether or not to seek a single hauler in the borough for residential customers only. Commercial properties in the borough won't be subject to the discussion. Lansdale residents, and only Lansdale residents, take the survey now at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QLDWDXV. Resident Rose Chapman told the town hall session that she was against a single hauler. "It's sort of like a monopoly," she said. "Can you put trash out on the curb and eliminate trash in the alley? I don't know the way to go. I don't like to be told; I like to make…

At the informal Lansdale Town Hall Session Tuesday night, residents and officials discussed a plethora of items — among them the potential renovations of 1 Vine Street and vacation of Railroad Avenue
What was once the home of the Dewey Decimal System is now home to the criminal justice system. What was once the post is now host to votes. Lansdale Police Department and Lansdale Borough Hall have history to them: The former was the Lansdale Library in the 1950s and the latter was the original Lansdale Post Office in the 1930s. Now, both buildings are the center of a facilities update in the borough. Both were deemed in poor condition, with countless mechical, structural and aesthetical problems, insufficient and tight spaces, and poorly-designed layouts. Council can choose to build onto them or demolish them in favor of new state-of-the-art buildings — or do nothing. The municipal complex renovations were the talk of Lansdale's Town Hall…

Some businesses are dealing with flooded basements, poor construction in connection with Lansdale streetscape, as discussed at a recent town hall session
The Lansdale streetscape project has become a bane for some businesses on Main Street – they are faced with flooded basements and shoddy brickwork. Yet business owners won’t speak up about it because they are either afraid or they don’t want to be viewed as a problem business. That’s according to McQuillin Studio owner Joe McQuillin, who talked about his frustration with the streetscape project at town hall session Tuesday night. McQuillin claims that the construction of the streetscape sidewalks gives stormwater no place to go but the path of least resistance, which is his basement. He said the contractor is using “play sand” to fill in the gaps of the brick on the streetscape. He said the construction begins on a bed of clay, followed by…

Better communication about the monthly town hall session was a major concern Tuesday night
With four meetings passed since its inception, the Lansdale Business Association and Economic Development Committee monthly town hall has discussed topics ranging from clean streets and First Friday to Founders Day and the performing arts center. Attendance fluctuates with each meeting: the first one was chock full of business owners, but recent meetings brought out a handful of residents. The idea of better communication about the town hall meetings and the meetings’ purpose was at the top of the agenda Tuesday night in the Lynn Janoff Community Room at Lansdale Library. “We don’t want to develop irregularity,” said councilor Mary Fuller, head of the Economic Development Committee. “Maybe people don’t want it. But as long as people show …

The third town hall session involved discussion on the responsibilities and goals of a potential executive director of Discover Lansdale
A funny thing happened to councilwoman Mary Fuller on the way to the forum … Fuller, chair of the borough Economic Development Committee, has had her inbox inundated with resumes from people interested in the position of executive director of Discover Lansdale. The reason: they believe there is a $175,000 stipend with the position. As Fuller pointed out during the joint monthly town hall session with the Lansdale Business Association, that is not the case. The facts are $150,000 is merely, at this point, proposed by the borough in the 2012 EDC Committee budget to allocate for the formation of Discover Lansdale organization. In addition, there’s been a call to Lansdale businesses to invest $25,000 toward the organization. In essence, the …

The second town hall session resulted in some back-and-forth about First Friday and bringing businesses to downtown
First Friday is fun for families, but it can be frustrating for businesses. That was the heart of a discussion this past Tuesday during the Economic Development Committee and Lansdale Business Association’s second town hall session. Christopher Lutz, of Marjeane Caterers, questioned peoples’ frustrations and enjoyment with the North Penn Community Network’s Lansdale First Friday event. He asked if anyone had a struggle with working alongside NPCN and faced any difficulties. Councilwoman Mary Fuller called First Friday a “mixed bag.” “We like people in town, but after a couple times, people ask what it’s about,” she said. Judy Jones, of Milestones in Music, a close business neighbor to Marjeane Caterers on Broad Street, said she and her …
