Towamencin Man Heads to County Court on Felony Pill Dealing Charges

Michael Smagalski, 29, of the 800 block of Continental Drive, Towamencin, has four active drug-related cases in the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court system

Towamencin resident Michael Smagalski, 29, — who is a defendant in four seperate active drug-related Montgomery County Common Pleas Court cases — is heading to county court Tuesday on a sixth drug-related case, this one involving alleged prescription pill dealing. Smagalski, of the 800 block of Continental Drive, at Towamencin Condominiums, was the target in a Montgomery County Drug Task Force operation, which involved alleged controlled purchases of drugs made via cell phone. He was arrested during a search warrant on Jan. 14. A search warrant service seized more than 640 prescription pills, according to an affidavit. Two Days, Two Students Dead in Vehicle Strikes

Both victims were struck after dark

A second Montgomery County student in two days has died after being struck by a vehicle after dark. Upper Moreland Police said a 17-year-old student at Upper Moreland High School was pronounced dead Tuesday evening at Abington Hospital after being struck at about 5:35 p.m. in the painted median of Blair Mill Road at Moreland Avenue. The driver of the striking vehicle, described as a sport utility vehicle, is a 39-year-old Bucks County woman who remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating with authorities. The student's name has not been released by authorities. On Monday night, a 16-year-old Pottsgrove High School Student died after being struck by a vehicle on East High Street (Ridge Pike) in the Sanatoga section of Lower …

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, get it off your to-do list now. Today is National Voter Registration Day, and thousands of local, state and national organizations have mobilized to make sure millions of people don’t miss the chance to cast their vote in this year’s elections. Six million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline. The voter registration deadline for Pennsylvania is Oct. 9. In Montgomery County, all voter registration forms must be received 30 days prior to the election. Chestnut Street Playground Project Getting $195K Grant

Montgomery County Commissioners approved last week a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the rehabilitation and renovation of a community park in Souderton Borough

The Chestnut Street Playground is set to get a $195,000 Community Development Block Grant from Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Development. The full requested amount was approved by commissioners last week.  The construction of the playground has a focus on special needs and accessibility. The grant will do the following, per description of the grant in the county's proposed CDBG municipal allocation document: The Chestnut Street Playground, also known as the Wile Avenue Playground, at Wile Avenue and West Chestnut Street in Souderton is considered a hidden treasure in the borough. County Library Gets $9K from Montgomery Township

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library has $9,000 more to its coffers, thanks to a contribution Monday night from Montgomery Township. Executive director Kathleen Arnold-Yerger was there to accept the check and she filled in supervisors and the public in attendance on e-books and her dream for the future of the Bookmobile. Arnold-Yerger said the library now has more than 11,000 titles for e-readers like Kindles and Nooks. "I think since last year we tripled the circulation with e-books. We can't keep up with the requests for e-books," she said. "You don't have to purchase them; you borrow your e-books from the library. You can choose to have it for seven, 14 or 21 days.
