The incident occurred Sunday evening at 189 Wissahickon Ave. No one was injured in the incident.
A fire on the rear porch of a twin home at 185 and 189 Wissahickon Ave. in Upper Gwynedd Township was extensively damaged in a fire on Mother's Day. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Marshal and damages are estimated in excess of $200,000, according to Upper Gwynedd Fire Chief John Scheiter. Around 6:14 p.m. Sunday, Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Company responded to the home located on the corner of Wissahickon Avenue and Beaver Street, according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety computer-aided dispatch system. Girls as young as 15 can now get the morning-after pill, also known as the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step, without a prescription, following a recent approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to The Miami Herald. The over-the-counter Plan B One-Step is made by Teva Women’s Health of Montgomery Township. Recommended use is right after or within three days after unprotected sex, according to the FDA. Becker's Corner in Quakertown will match every $10 cover charge May 1, with all proceeds going to Matthew Knoebel, 13, of Lansdale. Knoebel is recovering from a successful bone marrow transplant.
Prism Brewing Co. in Upper Gwynedd—right on the edge of North Wales—is having a special kickoff for its Chemosabe brew at Becker's Corner in Quakertown. Their toast—to 13-year-old Lansdale resident Matthew Knoebel, currently recovering from a bone marrow transplant, necessary for his battle with acute myeloid leukemia. On May 1, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Becker's Corner will match each $10 cover charge, with all proceeds going to Knoebel and his family. North Wales Borough is planning on avoiding long-term investment risks and handling its own reserve fund reinvestment, saving $1,000 along the way. According to The Reporter, Borough Manager Nate Dysard will manage the reinvestment. Dysard has presented a proposal to council for the $3 million reserve, according to the report. The plan is to deposit the reserves into 12 banks, with all but $250,000 invested in money markets and certificates of deposits for two years, according to the report. The Metropolitan American Diner and Bar will hold a fundraiser for The Friends of the North Wales Area Library on Thursday
Eating at the Metropolitan American Diner and Bar, located at 750 Upper State Road in Montgomery Township, may help keep North Wales Area Library running. The restaurant will hold a fundraising event for the library this Thursday during its lunch and dinner servings. For every Metropolitan patron telling their server that they are there for the library, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of sales to the Friends of North Wales Area Library. According to the NWAL website, the Friends of NWAL is a charitable organization of individuals, businesses and services groups, who support the library through donations, volunteerism and publicity. Suspended North Wales Police Chief Barry Hackert has resigned from his position. According to Bradley Schlegel of The Reporter, North Wales Borough Council voted unanimously Tuesday to accept his letter of resignation. Hackert was not present during the meeting. Schlegel reported Hackert has been suspended since January. On December 30, Hackert allegedly struck the head of security at Split Rock Resort in the Poconos.
