No Death Penalty for Alleged Lansdale Mother Murderer

Montgomery County Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Warren Pennick, 54, of Lansdale, accused of stabbing his mother to death on Halloween 2012.

If Warren Pennick, 54, is found guilty of first-degree murder for stabbing and slitting the throat of his 79-year-old mother Lorraine Pennick on Halloween 2012 in their Salford Avenue home, then he won’t be put to death. Montgomery County prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Pennick on a first-degree murder conviction, according to Carl Hessler Jr. of The Times Herald. Criteria was not met to result in a death penalty—Prosecutors could not show that the aspects that made the killing more terrible outweighed the aspects that are in favor of Pennick, according to the article. If convicted of first-degree murder, Pennick could get life in prison; if convicted of third-degree murder, he could face up to 40 years in prison. …

Warren Pennick, 54, of 635 Salford Avenue, Lansdale, the man accused by police of murdering his mother on Halloween, had charges of felony first- and third-degree murder held for March arraignment in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas at a Skippack preliminary hearing Wednesday morning. Pennick allegedly pushed his mother, Lorraine Pennick, 74, down their basement stairs and then slit her throat, for fear of her becoming "homeless" due to their inability to pay for repairs for the home, police said. In a crime that is Hitchcock-ian in nature, a Lansdale man has confessed to police to allegedly stabbing his mother to death and slashing her throat on Halloween morning. Warren H. Pennick, 54, of 635 Salford Avenue, has been arrested and charged with first- and third-degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Lorraine Pennick, 79, in the home she shared with her son, according to Lansdale Police and Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman. Pennick is also charged with possession of an instrument of crime, police said.
