Typical February Weather Ahead

After a near miss on snow this past Friday night, Monday rains will wash away what little is left on the ground, leaving a "typical" temperature pattern for mid-February for the rest of the week.

Friday's near miss storm was literally that ― we were about 50 miles away from getting several additional inches of snow in your backyard as many areas of northern New Jersey and coastal areas of central New Jersey ended up getting ten or more inches of snow. Locally, anywhere from trace amounts to six inches fell from Chester County to Bucks, with the city getting anywhere from a few tenths of an inch at the naval yards to nearly five inches in the Northeast. Most of that snow washes away with Monday's rains moving through, some of which will be steady if not heavy for a time. We'll probably get a half to full inch of rain in the region, with the bulk of it falling in the morning. Some drizzle lingers into the afternoon. The balance of …

Route 202 Near Pinecrest to Be Closed Thursday

PennDOT will be replacing a deteriorated drainage pipe across Route 202 in Montgomery Township between Grays Lane and Country Club Drive

Find a different way around Route 202 between Five Points and County Line Road Thursday. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will close Route 202 between Grays Lane and Country Club Drive in Montgomery Township, near PineCrest Country Club, from 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.  to replace a deteriorated drainage pipe. Route 202 traffic will be detoured over County Line Road and Upper State Road, according to PennDOT. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. PennDOT recommends allowing extra time to travel or finding an alternate route.   The work will be performed by PennDOT Montgomery County Maintenance employees, according to PennDOT.

I find it ODD that such a MAJOR roadway would be closed. It is not uncommon for PennDOT to open up on side of the road ... make improvements ... patch the road ... then open up the other side of the road ESPECIALLY ON MAJOR ARTERIES!   more ›

Hatfield 7-11 Robbed Second Time This Year

The robbery occurred at 1:40 a.m. Thursday of the 7-11 at North Broad Street

Hatfield Township Police are investigating the second robbery in four weeks of the 7-11 at 1647 North Broad Street in Hatfield. The same 7-11 was just robbed in January. Police responded to the robbery at 1:40 a.m. Thursday. An investigation determined two white suspects enter the store wearing dark-hooded sweatshirts or clothing covering their heads and faces, police said. One of the actors ordered the employee to open the register and the employee complied, police said. Once the register was open, the suspects grabbed cash from the register and an assortment of lottery tickets before fleeing on foot, police said. One suspect is described as a white male, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, wearing a royal blue-colored hooded …

Douglass Road, Bellows Way Fires Under Investigation

Director of Fire Services Rick Lesniak said the fires are not related

The causes of two house fires that occurred exactly one month apart remain under investigation in Montgomery Township. The home of John and Linda Carlson at 20 Douglass Road went up in flames Thursday evening, Feb. 9. The house was completely destroyed. A month earlier, on Jan. 9, the home of Glenn and Joanne Harris at 119 Bellows Way was eradicated by a blaze. Both homes are completely uninhabitable and will most likely be razed. "We don't believe there is any relations between the two fires," said Rick Lesniak, director of fire services for Montgomery Township. A source informed Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch that the fire started after the homeowner Linda Carlson, upon reentering the home from smoking a cigarette, emptied the ashtray …

Late Afternoon Fire Destroys Montgomeryville Home

"Within six minutes, it was gone," said homeowner Linda Carlson

The black smoke billowed above the homes on Douglass Road. Around one curve in the road, residents packed the street behind police crime tape, looking something like a clogged artery. Their eyes were transfixed on the destruction at 20 Douglass Road. The entire roof of the two-story Colonial was gone. Firefighters hit two front upstairs rooms with water; the left upstairs room was consumed by fire. Down on the ground, another group of firefighters blasted the garage. The roof above, which was over a loft, had not just collapsed, but basically ripped at the seams where the eave meets the top of the exterior wall. Siding above the front door was melted off. You could see the woods behind the house through the front windows. Among all the …

No Need to Panic With Impending Snow

"No need to stock up," said Accuweather.com meteorologist

The rain-snow mix headed our way overnight won't be much of anything for residents in the Philadelphia region. "It's not going to be too much," said Accuweather.com meteorologist Mike Pigott. "I do think eventually that the rain, which will be heavy at times this evening, will mix with a little bit of snow late tonight." He said the rain-to-snow crossover will occur in the North Penn area around midnight to 1 a.m. "In terms of actual accumulation, a coating to maybe an inch on grassy surfaces. On paved surfaces, you will not see much at all - very little to no accumulation," Pigott said. Almost the entire state will see a rain-to-snow event.  "Right now, it's more the backside of rain ending as snow," Pigott said. "Some areas out toward …
