Alleged Lansdale Knifepoint Robber Arraigned on Six Felonies

Derek Joel Brady, 26, of Lansdale, allegedly robbed a woman at knifepoint at an ATM at Citizens Bank on East Main Street Sept. 19.

Derek Joel Brady, 26, of the unit block of West Second Street, Lansdale, was arraigned Wednesday morning at Lansdale District Court on 17 criminal offenses, including six felonies, for his alleged role in a Sept. 19 knifepoint robbery of a woman at the ATM at Citizens Bank and the Oct. 3 attempted robbery of an employee at The Attic in Lansdale.
District Judge Harold Borek set bail at $25,000 cash, per court records. Brady was taken to Montgomery County prison in lieu of bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. in Lansdale.
Brady is charged with two felony counts of robbery-threatening immediate serious injury, two felony counts of robbery-inflicting the threat of immediate bodily injury, felony robbery-taking property by force, felony criminal attempted robbery-taking property by force, misdemeanor theft, misdemeanor criminal attempted theft, misdemeanor receiving stolen property, two counts of misdemeanor simple assault, two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and two misdemeanor counts of possessing an instrument of crime, according to court records.
Lansdale Police received a tip from an acquaintance of Brady's, who told police Brady was the person in the surveillance video released after The Attic robbery, police said. Witnesses then identified Brady as the individual who tried to rob the store, police said.
According to an affidavit, the robber at The Attic accosted a female cashier with a black-handled knife, demanded money, and when she refused, the robber stabbed the register in an attempt to open it.
Brady, who works at Asher's Chocolates in Franconia, reported to work at 8 a.m. Oct. 3, but told his boss that he was sick and was sent home by 9 a.m., per the affidavit.
A search warrant at Brady's apartment on Oct. 7 found a knife matching the one used in The Attic attempted robbery, police said.
The affidavit stated that detectives found the description of the robber in both instances was similar to Brady, as well as the scheme in both instances. Police issued a warrant based on this, as well as the fact that the robber fled in the direction of Brady's apartment, which is in close proximity to both Citizens Bank and The Attic, police said.
Brady is currently in the trial process for two separate criminal offenses in Montgomery County.
He awaits trial on a felony drug possession charge from a January 2012 arrest in Hatfield Township, per court records.
Brady awaits trial on a second January 2012 arrest on felony forgery and misdemeanor theft and access device fraud charges in Hatfield Township, per court records.
