No Mural for Main and Broad, Moved to Walnut St. Lot

The public spoke up at a June 8 fundraiser for the Lansdale Mural Arts Program — no mural is desired at Broad and Main streets. However, it will be painted in August on the side of Chantilly Floral.

The public spoke and Lansdale Mural Arts Program listened: There won’t be a mural at Main and Broad streets in Lansdale after all.

Instead, citizens and visitors can expect to see a beatified wall on the side of Chantilly Floral Boutique at the Walnut Street parking lot at West Main and Walnut streets.

Lansdale Business Association President Doug DiPasquale said LMAP is taking its cue from the anonymous suggestion cards left at a June 8 LMAP fundraiser.

“We had comment cards at the June 8 fundraiser, so that guests had a friendly and anonymous way to give feedback,” DiPasquale said. “In considering them, as well as numerous other platforms that people have at their disposal, we are taking the cue from the public, as we always said we would.”

The effort to create, fund and staff the murals project comes from a band of volunteers.

“There are groups and individuals eager to lend their time to the installations,” said Ellen Foulke, LMAP committee member. “Some are taking vacations from work; others are blocking time for the chance to be a part of it.”

Installation of the two murals — the other one will be painted on the side façade of the building housing Tabora Farm, next to Railroad Plaza — is proposed to begin Aug. 15. LMAP has tentatively scheduled Aug. 16 to Aug. 17, and Aug. 18, Aug. 23, Aug. 25 and Aug. 29 as other installation dates.

LMAP has about 90 supporters on its mailing list. It is encouraging Boy and Girl Scout troops and church groups to volunteer for the installations, as well as retired persons.
