Gravity is Everywhere Once Again!
Recently, I attended a local gathering of some old friends. Many of them have been or are involved in the running of school districts in Bucks and Montgomery counties.. It seems that in a number of districts, the fuel gauge is on empty. The amount districts can increase taxes under the Act 1 index is not even covering the increase in Pennsylvania’s public schools employee retirement rates, let alone the double-digit health care expense increase. This issue is not confined to just one part of the state. It is part of board discussions and contract negotiations at districts large and small, urban and rural, as school boards struggle to address the growing expense of maintaining the public school systems.
