Today I am grateful for songbirds. I stepped out my door into the frosty, early morning chill to get the newspaper and the first thing I was greeted with was, tweet-tweet-tweet-twidddlllllleeetweet. Wow. Can actual Spring be far behind?
I’ve seen the birds all winter. Even Robins. I wonder if they join up at their bird-meetings and tweet-hollar at the guy among them who said, “What’s the point of going south for winter? There was almost no snow last year and we went all that way for nothing! We’re not going this year.” I guarantee there will be a stronger vote for the trip next year.

I’ve seen birds, but I haven’t heard them sing. Is it because they don’t sing in winter? Is it because the doors and windows are slammed shut against the cold? Is it because I’m not paying attention? I don’t know. I only know that this morning, when I opened the door and heard them singing, I felt rejuvenated, hopeful and very grateful.
