One Dead in Skippack Township New Year's Fire

The body of George Hobensack was found after an early-morning house fire on Fort Bevon Road

Updated at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 1:

George Hobensack, 47, was found dead in his home on the 2000 block of Fort Bevon Road in Skippack after a fire broke out around midnight on Jan. 1.

The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated, and the death is not considered suspicious at this time, according to thePennsylvania State Police.

Montgomery County Detective Bureau and Coroner, Skippack, Worcester, Harleysville, Lower Providence and Upper Gwynedd Fire Departments, Skippack and Harleysville EMS, and the North Penn Good Will were on the scene.

One male was found dead after a house fire on the 2000 block of Ft. Bevon Road in Skippack early on New Year’s Day, according to The Reporter.

Skippack Fire Chief Haydn Marriott IV said the Pennsylvania State Police declined to confirm whether the male – whose name has not been released – died as a result of the fire, or from another cause.

A PSP Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, which was reported by a neighbor at 12:17 a.m.

In addition to Skippack Fire, Worcester, Souderton, Harleysville, and Upper Gwynedd fire companies also assisted at the scene, plus Skippack and Harleysville EMS, according to Marriott.

A dog was rescued from the home, and the three other occupants were not home at the time of the fire, according to Marriott. There was substantial damage to the second and third floors, and water damage throughout the house.
