Pair Arrested for Stealing Scrap Metal in Lansdale Borough

Two people were arrested for theft and trespassing after they were caught stealing scrap metal from the train tracks near West Fifth Street and Cannon Avenue.

Two people were arrested for theft and trespassing after they were caught stealing scrap metal from the train tracks near West Fifth Street and Cannon Avenue, Lansdale Borough Police said.

On Saturday afternoon, an officer on patrol observed a "suspicious" man and woman in the area of the train tracks. As he approached them, the female quickly got into her car and turned on the ignition, police said. The man fled the scene, according to information from police.

Police radioed a description of the male and the direction he was headed; assisting officers located him shortly after, according to information from police.

Police later learned the pair was caught stealing scrap metal from the train yard by a conductor earlier in the day. They were warned by the conductor to stay away or police would be contacted, according to information from police.

In addition to charges of theft and trespassing, the man faces charges of possession of a controlled substance for the suspected heroin that was found in his wallet, police said.
