Allentown Road Closed Monday Morning After Driver Hits Pole

Towamencin Police are attempting to identify the driver

Allentown Road was closed for several hours Monday morning between Weikel Road and Valley Forge Road following a one-vehicle accident where the driver struck a utility pole near Inglewood Elementary School.

Towamencin Township Police are attempting to identify the driver, who is an adult male and the only occupant of the vehicle, police said.

The man was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital via Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale after suffering injuries in the accident, police said. The man was conscious at the scene.

The accident occurred around 5:11 a.m. at Woodlawn Drive and Allentown Road. The vehicle was westbound on Allentown Road approaching Woodlawn, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway on the right side and struck a utility pole, police said.

The vehicle overturned and rolled over twice, before coming to rest 139 feet west of the pole, police said, facing the westbound lane.

Police believe the male driver is the owner of the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation by the township police Traffic Safety Unit. Towamencin Police were assisted at the scene by Towamencin Fire Police, Fairmount Fire Co. Fire Police, Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. and Upper Gwynedd Township Police.
