ALS Beef and Beer Fundraiser at Molly's Saturday

Like Gehrig, Joyce Dutton also has a bad break.

But there's no reason she should feel like the unluckiest gal on Earth. Come out and show support so Joyce can remain living with her grandchildren and daughter, Tracy Dutton Gaal.

The 63-year-old is fighting ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Joyce's daughter has put on a benefit for her Saturday at 8 p.m. at .

Proceeds go toward insurance costs for home care for Dutton and her family.

"Slowly, she has lost the ability to paint, a talent she just discovered she had, sculpt, dance, take walks, play on the playground, and take care of her grandchildren - her true love," states Gaal on the public event page on Facebook.

For the past five years, Dutton has been living with Gaal and her family, helping take care of her daughter, her grandchildren and her home.

Gaal writes on Facebook:

Now, it is our turn to return the favor. We have been taking care of her this past year where she has been unable to do the basics. We have turned our dining room into her bedroom, complete with hospital bed and commode. We wouldn’t have it any other way. The best place for her is in our house right now.

They say that ALS patients do better and survive longer when living with loved ones. However, her insurance won’t cover home care; they want to put her in a home where she will die within a short period of time. I can’t have that. I need my mother, my children need my mother and my mother needs us.

Gaal states nursing home care will cost $30 an hour for three hours a day, while the family is at work.

Until I am home for the summer and can take care of her myself, we need a van that can accommodate her special wheelchair so we can get her back and forth to doctor’s appointments and other medical devices that assist her in day to day life that insurance won’t cover. I just want to be able to take care of my mother until the end. I am not ready to lose her.
