Bike Night-Themed First Friday Coming in September

Discover Lansdale President Mary Fuller said the second cancellation of Almost Fab! for a First Friday was its last. Flower Power rocked instead last month, and Where's Pete? and Find Vienna rock next month.

Get your motor rolling and head out on the highway to downtown Lansdale on Sept. 6 for the Lansdale Bike Night-themed First Friday.

"We've been featuring the Bike Night guys (Blue Comet MC) at the Susquehanna Avenue (North Penn) Boys and Girls Club lot. They'll be there the night before," said Councilwoman Mary Fuller at the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting last week. Fuller is also president of nonprofit Discover Lansdale, which spearheads the monthly First Friday.

Bands playing next First Friday are Where's Pete? and Find Vienna.

"Many local bands are very good," said Fuller, "and (Find Vienna) came recommended from several directions."

Old Navy in Montgomeryville will host a fashion show alongside Chantilly Floral of Lansdale at September's First Friday in Railroad Plaza. It's a back-to-school theme, Fuller said.

"Chantilly Floral will be showcasing their new line," Fuller said.

The most popular event at First Friday, as vouched by Fuller and Councilman Jason Van Dame, is the Midway on Richardson Avenue.

"The midway saw pretty good action," Fuller said. "We're out of prizes."

Van Dame said the Midway tickets are too cheap.

"To get 20 for $5, I can't get out of that thing," he said. "The kids have tickets for an hour-and-a-half. They can do the same thing four, five times."

Fuller joked that perhaps they could get a Discover Lansdale volunteer to babysit at the Midway.

Fuller told council during the committee reports last week that August First Friday was successful, despite a last minute cancellation by Almost Fab!, a local Beatles tribute band.

In fact, the most recent cancellation was the second time that Almost Fab! dropped off a bill to play First Friday in Lansdale.

"We're not going to have them back again," said Fuller, in her capacity as president of Discover Lansdale.

Due to the last minute cancellation, Fuller said the band Flower Power came through and rocked the town.

"First Friday was successful, despite the fact that we had a last minute change in musical lineup," Fuller said. "Thank goodness for Flower Power. We wil invite them back again. They did a lovely pinch hitting job."

Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti said First Friday started on the slow side for 45 minutes, then the crowd started rolling in under the perfect weather.
"There were some snags Mary worked out, which had her on edge, and I can understand," Saldutti said. "I thought it was very well attended last week. I've had great feedback from people. Kudos to that."
