No comment on whether the rider was wearing a helmet ... isn't that important to know?
james barsby August 30, 2012 at 09:36 PM
Tell steven long it is not at all important whether or not he was wearing a helmet. We as riders have fought for and won the rite to make our own decision on helmets. Find another way to stick your nose is other peoples buisness.

He is my father in law & he WAS wearing a DOT approved helmet. But the fact that he was almost 70 put any chance of survival very low. To James, it is absolutely the rider's right to wear one or not, but for my family that's not what's important today. I would hope this blog concentrates more on a man losing his life rather than arguing with complete strangers about a polital issue or news article. May God bless you both whether you ride on 2 wheels or 4.

He was not wearing a helmet.. I was third on the scene and saw him land on the road - face down. It was tragic... it was a trike he was driving. Very sad and a tragic waste.

How sick - My father-in-law WAS WEARING A HELMET because I was the one that carried out the bag with his personal belongings, including his bloody helmet.. What a shame to put judgement on a man that you don't even know. Allen was so loved and will be missed from so many people...

Thank you for all the kind words and support in regard to this tragedy. Condolences go out to the Steigerwalt clan. And to clear one thing up - this is a daily online hyperlocal news website, not a blog. Thank you for all your support and comments.

I was the vehicle directly behind him. I saw everything including his helmet. The paramedics that WITNESSED the accident took off his helmet while they frantically tried to stabilize him. To his family- My condolences go out to you. I have prayed for him and you since the accident. I am very sorry to hear he has passed on.
