Lansdale Hometown Hero Walk Returning Flag Day 2014

A vicious snowstorm and frigid cold can't keep Michael "Bish" Rieg from looking at the bright side of 2014, specifically June 14.
Flag Day will mark a special one for veterans in Lansdale, as the Hometown Hero Walk Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser returns for a third year.
Some things remain the same this year: Veterans and supporters gather at Trinity Lutheran Church, where a guest speaker opens the event, culminated by a walk down West Main Street to Memorial Park and back again where food and refreshments await.
Rieg, of Upper Gwynedd, said there are some changes planned this year for the better.
First, all veterans will get a camouflage T-shirt and all other walkers and supporters will wear blue for Flag Day.
"In addition to the usual $20 requested donation per walker, I am encouraging youth involvement by offering youth shirts at a $10 donation," he said. 
This year, Rieg will make sure each walker and supporter gets an American flag.
Attendance is expected to also double this year, he said.
"While we had about 1,000 last year on June 8, I am pushing for a crowd in excess of 2,000 for our Flag Day walk," he said.

The Lansdale Hometown Hero Walk, an offshoot of the PA Hometown Walk, closed out 2013 with great support. In December, the Lansdale VFW Post 32 presented a check to the Walk for $2,000, payable to the Wounded Warrior Project. 
Proceeds came from a golf outing that the VFW organized on Sept. 8, 2013 at Skippack Country Club, Rieg said.
"This is the fourth year VFW 32 has organized such a great fundraiser to aid wounded veterans," Rieg said.
