Lower Salford, Franconia, Towamencin, Upper Gwynedd Top Safest Cities in PA

SafeWise used independent FBI crime data to determine the safest cities in the state with populations of more than 10,000 residents.

Towamencin, Franconia, Upper Gwynedd and Lower Salford townships were named four of the top 50 safest cities in Pennsylvania by SafeWise, using the most recent FBI crime reports.
SafeWise compiled independent research with the FBI data and only took into consideration cities with 10,000 residents or more as of 2011.
Lower Salford Township made the Top 10, coming in at number eight.
According to SafeWise, Lower Salford had no reported robberies, rapes or murders in 2011.
"Lower Salford is a community that focuses on family and celebrates the natural beauty of the area. With the addition of a world-class golf course in 2006, this quaint town offers every activity a modern family is looking for, along with a rich local history," states the website.
Crime is predicted to trend lower in 2013 than 2010, according to SafeWise.
Franconia Township was named the 13th safest city in Pennsylvania.
According to the report, Franconia offers "a balance between progress and preservation," citing the municipality's valleys, streams, woodlands and preserved farms.
"The Franconia Township Police Department operates on the values of integrity, pride and service, offering free community safety presentations, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) programs in local schools and the S.A.F.E. program which helps seniors protect themselves from fraud," states the website.
Upper Gwynedd Township came in 24th on the list. SafeWise said Upper Gwynedd "offers a unique combination of historical pride and modern progress" and called it one of the safest communities in the state.
"The crowning jewel of the township is the Gwynedd Preserve, 240 acres open to the public where nature lovers can experience natural diversity from wetlands to deciduous forests and wildflower meadows," states the website.
Towamencin Township landed on the list at number 41, right between Upper Southampton (40) and West Deer Township.
SafeWise lauded Towamencin's open space, recreational venues, safe residential neighborhoods and history.
"And the city makes sure there’s plenty to do around town – in the summer the city shows free movies, either in the park or while keeping cool by floating in the Towamencin Township Pool," states the website.
Other Montgomery County municipalities making the list include Springfield Township, Lower Providence Township (No. 50), and Upper Dublin Township. New Britain Township and Plumstead Township also made the list.
