Update: No Theft Charges for Alleged Condiment Crook

Dennis Kerns, 45, of North Wales, was arrested Saturday on a public drunkenness charge after he was allegedly nabbed for stealing condiments from West Main Diner. The owners of the diner did not press charges.

The owners of West Main Diner opted not to press charges against a North Wales man who allegedly stole condiments like steak sauce, syrup and ketchup from their Lansdale business Saturday afternoon.

Dennis Kerns, 45, of East Prospect Avenue, was charged, however, by Lansdale Police for public drunkenness, police said.

Police said dispatch received a call from an employee regarding a man who allegedly stole ketchup, steak sauce and other condiments from West Main Diner on West Main Street.

The man was described as a white male, bald, 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a suit and carrying a black bag, police said. The man was last seen walking east on Main Street, police said.

Police located Kerns out front of Lansdale Music Factory. Officers told Kerns why they wanted to talk to him, police said, and Kerns told them he was at the diner.

Police said Kerns show signs of intoxication.

An officer noticed some items sticking out of Kerns' bag, which was on the ground: a bottle of ketchup, a bottle of Worcestershire sauce and a bottle of vodka, police said.

Police said other items were allegedly found on Kerns, in various pockets of his cothing: 25 sugar packets, five mini creamers, ketchup packets, and a bottle of syrup.

Police said the owners of West Main Diner were contacted and they did not wish to press charges.

Lansdale Police officers detained and arrested a man Saturday afternoon for allegedly stealing condiments and glasses from a Lansdale business.

The man was a bald white man in his 30s or 40s, wearing a suit, according to eyewitness photographs.

Police found a bag on the man, which contained items like Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, creamer, jars, glasses and the like, according to eyewitness reports.

An employee of Lansdale Music Factory said the man tried to book a hip hop jazz group at the music venue. Upon saying goodbye, the man was arrested for the alleged theft by police, according to eyewitnesses.

Witnesses reported the man stole the items from West Main Diner.

"I'm a chef. I need this stuff" is a statement the man allegedly made to police, according to eyewitnesses.

As of Saturday evening, there were no criminal dockets for arraignment filed in District Court 38-1-28 of Judge Harold Borek in Lansdale.
