Numerous electrical fires, downed trees reported following severe thunderstorm

Destruction was rampant along Snyder Road in Towamencin Friday evening.

Fire crews and fire police closed off Snyder Road to through traffic between the North Penn High School entrance and Valley Forge Road.

A towering pine tree with large diameter broke off near its base with the ground and toppled into the parking lot at Forge Gate Apartments.

Other tree limbs snapped off in the storm and brought down power lines on Snyder Road, knocking out power to at least one apartment building, Building C, at Forge Gate Apartments.

An electrical overhead line sizzled, sparked and caused small fires in the grassy right-of-way in front of Forge Gate. Fire police cordoned off the area and awaited electric support.

Numerous trees have collapsed on houses in the Lansdale area.

Correspondent Keith Heffintrayer said with every block, there's another tree on a house.

A thunderstorm with winds in excess of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail marauded its way through Lansdale and Montgomeryville Friday evening.

A second thunderstorm will come through the area around 7:45 p.m.

A tree crashed onto a porch at 607 W. Main St. in Lansdale. Fairmount Fire Co. was on scene as of 6:50 p.m.

In Lansdale, an entire tree was down across Second Street at Mitchell Avenue. Electrical lines were reported to be in water.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 7 p.m. for Bucks and Montgomery counties.

The storm moved southeast at 25 mph, according to NOAA.

Eyewitness reports said it seemed like a tornado touched down in the middle of Lansdale.

“Cannon and Derstine, there are trees everywhere,” said reader Derek Calhoun, of West Point.

"What the heck happened!" said resident Kali Butterly. "I honestly thought there was a tornado when I looked out the window and ran away to cover my kids! When I went outside afterwards, I was shocked! Shutters from houses away, broken trees, debris galore!"

Numerous electrical fires have been reported in the area.

Fairmount Fire Co. is investigating a fire at Main Street and Towamencin Avenue and Mt. Vernon Street and Mitchell Avenue in Lansdale.

A fire alarm call was made for Line and Clinton streets

Towamencin Fire Co. is investigating a fire at Weikel Road and Stonybrook Lane.

A vehicle accident has been reported at Knapp Road and Lexington Road in Lansdale.
