"It was a distraction type of thing," Bendig said. "One of them asked questions about the phones. They left, and came  back in at closing time and did a grab and run."

There were no weapons displayed and no injuries, Bendig said.

Police are looking at video surveillance of the incident.

Bendig said the serial numbers for the stolen items were entered in the CLEAN/National Crime Information Center database.

Bendig said if police were to obtain a smartphone, they can enter the serial number in the database, which would notify them of the item being a stolen item.

"They would see it was stolen in Montgomery Township, and then we can work backward," Bendig said. "The thing we have to look at is if they are sold on the street or a pawn shop or they get it to somebody else. We don't know the specific intent."

The investigation is ongoing, Bendig said.
