Green Street Could Revert to Two-Way Street

Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre is looking into the safety that goes with reverting the one-way Green Street to both directions, either permanently or temporarily. McDyre believed a two-way street would benefit the PCTI Connector Project.

It doesn't look like northbound Green Street, specifically between Whites Road and Hancock Street, will be getting new one-way signage anytime soon.

Last month, Chief Robert McDyre was updated of a resident's concern on Green Street regarding people turning around near Lansdale Cemetery and driving away the wrong way on a one-way street.

At Wednesday's Lansdale Public Safety Committee meeting, the vote for one-way or no turnaround signage was tabled until further research can be completed by the police.

"It was suggested more signage. The borough is oversigned," said McDyre. "There's signage everywhere."

McDyre said he wanted to do more research to find out exactly why Green Street is one way.

"We'll look at the street," McDyre said. "With the pending PCTI project, we need a detour there."

McDyre was referring to the

"We'll see if it is possibly to turn it into two ways," he said. "It may be temporary or permanent. It's something to look at."

Green Street was made a one-way street northbound, from Whites Road to Vine Street, on July 3, 1979, according to Lansdale Borough records.

The borough code also states:

Signs shall be erected at appropriate places giving notice of the hereinbefore specified direction of traffic at each end of the specified one-way streets and at such locations within such one-way sections as are necessary to give reasonable notice to the traveling public entering upon such one-way sections.

Green Street, from Whites Road to Hancock Street, is absent of one-way signage; there is no sign at the start of the one-way Green Street at Whites Road. "Do Not Enter" signage exists on southbound Green Street at Hancock Street.
