Lansdale Man Allegedly Stomped Cat, Charged with Cruelty

A Lansdale man faces a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty after he allegedly stomped a cat six times, injuring its ribs and mouth, police said.

Mieczslaw Zwolinski, 60, of the 800 block of Walnut Street, was summoned by mail to report to court at a later date, police said.

On Dec. 4, at 5:45 p.m., Lansdale Police responded to a report of a disturbance on Walnut Street.

A witness told police they were on the sidewalk speaking to Zwolinski, when they heard Zwolinski's dog a few houses down, police said.

When they reached Zwolinski's home, they saw a cat inside his yard.

Zwolinski allegedly began to yell expletives and kicked the cat off the ground, the witness told police.

Zwolinski then allegedly stomped the cat at least six times as the cat tried to flee, police said.

The neighbor told police they told Zwolinski to stop to no avail, police said. Zwolinski allegedly kept asking the witness if they cat belonged to him or her, police said.

The owner of the cat lived nearby and was contacted, and the owner took the injured cat for treatment, police said. The cat was treated at a veterinarian for pain to its ribs and a cut on its mouth, police said. 

Zwolinski was last in court on Nov. 23, 2012 for a preliminary hearing for simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness charges in Whitpain Township. All charges were dismissed, according to court records.

In 1999, Zwolinski was arrested and charged with DUI in Hatfield Borough.
