Lansdale Police Officers will be ramping up patrols on borough streets on Halloween, but they will also get in the spirit and hand out candy to children trick-or-treating.

According to a press release, Chief Robert McDyre said there is a purpose for these efforts.

“This kind of interaction between children and officers is valuable because it promotes a positive exchange that can lead to a child’s ease regarding future contacts with the police when the child or someone he/she knows needs help,” McDyre said.

McDyre said that parents should ensure young children are supervised by a responsible adult while they are trick-or-treating and that all drivers slow down and be alert to children crossing streets.
