Man Accused of Dragging ShopRite Employee in Custody

Garrett Libby, 24, of Quakertown, allegedly stole items from ShopRite in Hatfield Township and dragged an employee who tried to stop him with his SUV. He was arraigned Monday and remains in prison on $250,000 cash bail.

A Quakertown man missing for more than one month, who is accused of stealing from ShopRite in Hatfield and then dragging a loss prevention employee with his SUV, is in custody of Hatfield Township Police.

Garrett Thomas Libby, 24, of the 100 block of California Road, is facing charges of robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, simple assault, reckless endangerment, retail theft and receiving stolen property, police said.

Libby was arraigned Monday afternoon in Souderton District Court before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser.

Bail was set at $250,000 cash, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is set for June 14 at 9 a.m.

Hatfield Township Police said Libby was arrested by Quakertown Borough Police on an arrest warrant and turned over to Hatfield Township Police on Monday.

Police said Libby allegedly stole several items from the Forty Foot Road ShopRite store on May 20, shortly before 7:32 p.m.

Libby is a heroin abuser, according to an "I Hate Heroin" Facebook post.

After Libby allegedly left the store with the items and entered his maroon 2000 Ford Explorer, he was confronted by a loss prevention employee in the parking lot, police said. Libby allegedly refused to stop and the employee was dragged by the fleeing SUV, police said.

The victim was treated for her injuries at Abington Hospital, police said.

Police released information on the Pennsylvania registration of Libby’s SUV of JBS-0429.
