Milling Machine Tips Over, Impacts Traffic

A milling machine that is being used in roadwork at Broad Street and Allentown Road in Upper Gwynedd fell into a trench and caused the intersection to be closed Thursday afternoon

A 60,000-pound milling machine overturned at a roadwork area at Broad Street and Allentown Road in Upper Gwynedd Thursday afternoon, disrupting traffic due to closing the intersection.

According to Brian Bingaman of The Reporter, the machine tipped over in a trench in the asphalt, falling onto the shoulder of the west side of South Broad Street at the traffic light at Allentown Road.

Sgt. Steve Gillen of Upper Gwynedd Township Police was quoted in the paper as saying the machine had a possible equipment malfunction.

According to the article, Upper Gwynedd Fire Co., Upper Gwynedd Fire Police and Fairmount Fire Company of Lansdale assisted at the scene. A tow truck from Bergey's was dispatched to the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m., according to the article.

Crews with B.F. Brown & Co. Asphalt and Paving assisted in traffic control, according to the article.
