Lansdale Police Commended by Mayor, Council for Apprehension of Alleged Attempted Rapist

Even with Chief Robert McDyre out on medical leave from back surgery, the Lansdale Police did not waver in its leadership abilities, partnerships and duties to arrest and charge an alleged attempted rapist Monday in Lansdale Borough.
As such, Lansdale Mayor Andy Szekely and Lansdale Borough Councilmembers Wednesday night commended the Lansdale, Upper Gwynedd and Montgomery police forces for their valiant efforts and cooperation in tracking down, apprehending and charging El Salvador immigrant Herson Guardado, 16, with the alleged attempted rape of a 25-year-old mother in Stony Creek Park on Monday. Guardado will be tried as an adult in the case, per approval from the Montgomery County District Attorney.
"It's disturbing when these incidents happen in our town, but it's also very reassuring when our police are so quick to respond and work with other departments," Szekely said during his report at the Wednesday council session. "In this case, a thank you also to Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department in catching the alleged perpetrator. So, hats off to our Lansdale Police Department."
After a loud applause by the audience and council members, Borough Manager Timi Kirchner echoed Szekely's congratulations to the police department with her own kudos at the end of her manager's report to council.
"Bad things do happen, just about anywhere," she said. "The good news for us is we have such a strong police department that worked so quickly to catch this person. But also, we had strong cooperation from surrounding police departments. We will be giving more information on that soon."
Kirchner said it speaks to how great of a police department Lansdale has today "and how quick they were to respond."
"(They were quickly able) to bring in resources from other departments to get this done," Kirchner said.
Council President Jack Hansen said that, as McDyre is recovering from surgery, he stepped out on behalf of council and wished him a speedy recovery.
"It shows the depth of our police department, because every member has stepped up and they are doing their job the way it should be done," Hansen said.
After the meeting, Szekely said it was great how the police forces were able to get someone into custody so quickly and have him go through due process for the alleged crime.
"It's nice to see Lansdale working with other departments," he said. "I know the community is happy."
